DAY 1 / WASH DAY

Hey, Dirty Girls! It’s Day 1, and we are about to create the foundation of our 7-day hair marathon. That’s right. Come back every day for a new, gorgeous hairstyle that stretches our blow-dries for a week.

It’s Wash Day! We are about to create our gorgeous blowout in 5 steps. No cutting corners today! So, if you’ve got fine hair and you need volume, today’s the day to use those products and tools to give yourself as much volume as you can. If you’re like me, and you have thick, curly or wavy hair, today is the day we are going to create a sleek and polished blow-dry. But for every other day, you will have a new, stunning style ready to go in 5-10 minutes. So stick with us, we’re going to have some fun, and you can be a Dirty Girl too!

Step 1: Wash

Double Wash, Single Condition, Towel Dry

Alright, Dirty Girls! Wash your hair not once, but twice because it’s about to be a long, but fun, week. Condition once so that your hair is well moisturized and ready to go. Now, towel dry, and you’ll be left with damp hair that’s ready for product.

Step 2: Serum

Gently press to avoid frizz!

I love using about 3-4 pumps of the Paul Mitchel Super Skinny Serum. Rub the product between your hands first, and start gently applying it to your hair, starting from the ends. Don’t forget the hair framing your face! This is going to seal down the cuticle of the hair, cutting out any of that excess moisture, and help cut down blow-drying time up to 70%.

Step 3: Part

Different parts flatter different face shapes and hair types

Use a comb to carefully set your part. Parting your hair differently works for different hair textures and can actually highlight different parts of your face! I’ll have some super great tips to find the perfect part for you in a later post.[1]  Personally, I do a classic, center part, and bam! We are ready to start styling.

Step 4: Blow-Dry

It’s getting hot in here...

Alright, guys. Put your blow-dryer on high heat, high blow, and let’s start in the front. It’s good to start there because there’s less hair, and we can remove all that moisture quickly and make sure those strands frame your face perfectly before we move on! Plus that is what you see first!

When blowing out smooth, Always use the brush during the drying so that you can be precise and use a skinnier brush for the front and a wide, larger brush for the back. For the back of your head, you can divide your hair up and put a portion in a small bun to dry the rest for a thorough blow-dry! Once you feel like all of the moisture has been removed, give your hair a “cool shot” and let the colder air change the temperature of your hair so that you can feel for damp spots. I almost guarantee that it’s not completely dry, but keep going! Dirty Girls are dirty and determined.

This might feel like it’s going to take forever but once you get that good polish and all that moisture out, it’ll be worth it. I promise. This is the foundation for the next few days! I recommend taking plenty of water (or wine) breaks.

Step 5: Smooth

Stunning!

All that blow-drying has set us up for the Smooth! First, divide the hair on the top of your head from the hair below your ears, and clip the top away. We are starting with the lower part of your hair first.

Then, I recommend using a heat protectant. I use the Paul Mitchell Hot Off The Press Spray. Spray evenly on that bottom section of hair. Brush through a small section (I use the 4:13 brush), and use a Smoothing Iron (I love Paul Mitchell’s) at 360 degrees (that’s why we use heat protectant, ladies) and smooth the hair down from the roots. Pinch and pull your hair away from your head for that tension at the top and bring the smoothing iron down, ensuring that the section lies in front of your shoulder. Don’t just smooth to the ends, go through them! I go through each section twice for that extra polish. Make sure to use your brush to support your hair during the smoothing because using your hands right after introduces oils and can cause frizz.

Bonus Tip: Dont snap the iron! That sudden clamping motion can cause breakage.

Let the top section of your hair down, and separate out the front-top portion that frames your face out. We have more plans for that section later on! Repeat the heat protectant and smoothing on the rest of your hair. Finally, let that last section down and smooth it in a way that frames and flatters your face! Watch my Youtube video for ways to get a nice slight curve or curl on those front pieces of hair. Finally, take a little bit of oil for some shine onto your hands and run your fingers through your hair to apply!

And We Are Done!

You are officially a Dirty Girl. Thank you so much for following me all the way through. Today is the longest, but all that hard work is going to make sure your hair is spectacular all week long!

You look amazing, go conquer your day, and I’ll see you tomorrow.
