No Heat Styling- Braids

Hi, Dirty Girls! It is time for some No Heat styling time.

Braids are the new blow-outs.

We can create incredible style with no heat needed that actually protects your hair. You can wear this to the pool, to the beach, and look cute all summer long!

Step 1: Prep + Marula Oil Facts

We are going to start with a beautiful deep conditioner. I prefer the Paul Mitchell Marula Oil Intensive Mask* because it is an extremely luxurious treatment. It is packed with Marula spheres, which are stronger than Argan Oil because it has big molecules that sit on top of the hair which create a beautiful texture. This is a treatment that you don’t want to put in and rinse out; leave it in as long as possible! I am going to use this product to style, hand paint it in, and let it sit for all that time and intensity for full penetration into your locks.

You will also need:

Divide your hair in half so that you have a right section and a left section. They should be separated by your part that runs on the top of your head all the way down the back. This prepares you to create two adorable plaits!

Step 2: Deep Condition

First detangle the left side of your hair with a Wide Detangling Brush; this is something that you can do in the shower or as you get out. After letting my hair fall into my natural part, which is typically just a little off the center, I will put a portion up my hair into smaller sections and take a small portion and just work the Marula Oil through the strands with my fingers. Take your Wide Toothed Comb and brush through it to evenly distribute the product into your locks. Make sure that every piece of hair is hugged by the oil. Continue until all of the hair on your head is coated with that yummy conditioner that will give your locks that gorgeous shine!

Bonus Tip: Comb through all of the strands periodically a few times as you work the product in around your head to make sure every hair gets some love!

 Step 3: Beautiful Braid

Once you are satisfied with the conditioner application, we are going to start our braid. This is the protective style that we are going to wear out! While this deep condition is marinating, healing, and protecting those locks, you will also be looking absolutely amazing. You can wear this style throughout the day, go outside and let the warmth of summer drive that moisture into your hair, and even sleep in it at night to maximize the beneficial properties of those Marula spheres!

Take that first triangle section, from the high point on the head out to the corner of your eye, just a few inches wide. If you leave these braids in overnight and let them out the next morning, you will have a beautiful head of curls! 2-styles-in-1! Start the twists wherever you want your curls to begin. I prefer to start at my cheekbone by doing the standard Dutch three-section braid.** Check out my detailed tutorial here! that requires you to bring the strands underneath the others. Bring the right outside piece on one side under the middle piece. Pull that new middle piece tight. Then, cross that left strand under the new middle strand. Use your free hand to smooth loose strands of hair into the braid to make it more neat as well as adding more hair as you work your way down your head. Continue this pattern down the side of your head. I like to keep my braids close to my ear so that you can see the braid a little bit when you look at me straight on! Keep going until you reach the end of your hair and secure with a clear rubber band.

Bonus Tip: Brush through the loose hair at the ends under the hair that has been braided so that the strands are not tangled. Once you add that brushed hair into the braid, you will get really pretty, neat braids.

Step 4: The Other Side

Repeat Step 2 and Step 3 for the left section!

We’re done! Super easy, two beautiful Dutch braids with an amazing deep conditioner inside. This is a thermal protective style, absolutely no heat needed! We are going to wear these for a while; my hair takes forever to dry! I am going to take these babies out into the sun, sleep in them, and tomorrow, when they are dry (hopefully), we can take them out and create a wonderfully textured style.

See you tomorrow, girls!
